Attorney Kimberly E. Lorenz is Of Counsel to Bloodworth Law, PLLC, in Orlando, Florida. Kimberly handles business litigation, trust litigation, probate litigation, and employment law for the firm.
Kimberly is also a Supreme Court Certified Circuit and County Mediator. She has practiced Florida law since 2006.
Kimberly pursued the law as a career because she said, while she is not a big person, or a particularly strong person physically, she has been able to defend herself and her clients using rules.
“There are rules for how things are supposed to happen,” Kimberly said. “There are rules for how people are supposed to behave in a contract. Or, what they’re supposed to do if they’re in charge of a trust, or an estate. And when you don’t know what those rules are, it can be intimidating, or, you can be taken advantage of. So, I help my clients in two ways:
1. “I know the rules so that when a client is the person who has been trusted with a great responsibility, I can guide them. I provide them with what all their options are. And if they feel like they’ve been taken advantage of, we’ll take a look at all the options that can address and correct a situation.
2. “In each of the cases that I handle, I feel that I am able to make a difference in that person’s or that business’s life. I have to know how their business works. I ask how we can better protect you from this next time? What can we change about your vendor agreements? What can we change about what you do with your customers that can protect you in the future and insulate you from liability in the future?
Kimberly began her career as an insurance defense attorney representing small local businesses, then, as regional, national, and international business and entertainment clients handling defense work for personal injury and premises liability.
A shift in practice came after working for Macy’s for 13 years, for AMC Theatres, and a large air conditioning firm doing negligence defense.
“I really got to know those businesses, because I always thought that if I’m going to represent a business and defend them, that you can’t just get a claims file and talk to the client once and defend their claim,” Kimberly said.
Kimberly supports clients with employment law issues and as-needed human resources consultations, non-competes, and risk management.
Kimberly is a 2019-22 Super Lawyers. She was 2010-20 Super Lawyers Rising Star, and a Top Young Lawyer in Florida. A cum laude graduate from the University of Florida, Levin College of Law, Kimberly, also earned a B.S. in Journalism from the University of Florida.
A third-generation Floridian, Kimberly, has been in Orlando since she was a child. She spends time with her family, her daughter, her nieces, and her Godchildren. She gets to take them around to all the Old Florida activities that she explored growing up.
When we’re ripping into someone in a case, it’s fascinating. But for most clients, they just want to be able to get up and do their job. They don’t want to deal with disputes. It’s very disruptive. They want to focus on the profitability of their company and accomplish their dreams and their goals.
Litigation is never anybody’s goal unless something really intense has happened. And I like being able to take a big picture approach with them.
At the very outset, I give people an explanation of here’s where we are. Here’s where we need to go. But here’s how long it’s going to take. Here’s what you can anticipate. And, there are going to be things that come along that we can’t anticipate on the other side.
This is true especially when you’re talking about business, or trusts, or probate, handling other people’s money, and their ability to support families or employees.
I just want clients to be fully aware going in that we can gear up and go. Because I do like that part. We’re going to fight it tooth and nail. So, I address the full range of possibilities up front:
- What are you hoping to get at the end of the day.
- Can we get that done for you?
- Is litigation the best most efficient means for doing that? Or, are there other alternatives that you haven’t thought of yet?
