Meet Bloodworth Law Partner and Attorney Michael J. LaPorte
Bloodworth Law partner and attorney Michael J. LaPorte is a member of the Personal Injury Protection litigation team. Michael pursues the recovery of first-party insurance benefits, including, but not limited to, Florida No-Fault PIP insurance.
What is PIP Insurance?
PIP insurance is a no-fault insurance Florida drivers are required to buy and carry with a $10,000 minimum coverage. PIP insurance covers an accident no matter which driver caused the crash.
What Does the Bloodworth Law PIP Team Do?
Michael and the Bloodworth Law team represent policyholders and medical providers — doctors, chiropractors, hospitals, and medical businesses — that offer services to injured people after an accident. PIP litigation and lawsuits are filed against any insurance company that denies, reduces, or fails to provide all of the PIP benefits owed to plaintiffs.
Michael’s Uncle Was a Tax Attorney
Michael said his vision of becoming an attorney began because he admired his uncle who was a tax attorney in Washington, D.C. `
“I have handled PIP litigation with Bloodworth Law for just greater than three years,” said Michael who has practiced law since 1997. “And I have recovered just greater than two million in client compensation during that period of time.”
What Michael Enjoys Most About Practicing Law
“The thing that I enjoy most about practicing law is the strategy and the fight,” Michael said. “I am by nature a very competitive person. And realistically, I wasn’t going to be a professional athlete or realized my competitive edge in an athletic way, but the practice of law gave me an opportunity to be competitive and help people in the endeavor.”
Michael said that is what attracted him to practice law over any other potential career.
“PIP is a very narrow legal practice,” Michael said. “It’s a very niche practice. And for those who are experienced and accomplished in Florida PIP, it affords the opportunity to really shape the application and the development of the law.”
What I’m Most Proud Of
One of the things I’m most proud of in my career is the extent that I’ve been able to contribute to the development and the shaping of the Florida PIP or no-fault law during my nearly 20 years of PIP practice.
My Client Philosophy
My client philosophy is to tell the client what they need to hear, not just what they want to hear. Clients need to know the good and bad and ugly of their case, and they may not like it, but it certainly is in their best benefit to understand it.
Hiring Bigger Isn’t Necessarily Better
Clients should understand that when hiring a law firm, bigger isn’t necessarily better, what’s important is the attention to detail that your lawyer gives to your case.
How Bloodworth Law is Different
Bloodworth Law is different because we do provide the attention to detail that larger law firms do not bother to give or do not have time to give. I’ve practiced PIP litigation for nearly 20 years and what I’m most proud of is the opportunity that I’ve had during that time to contribute to the development of the law of Florida no-fault PIP.
Orlando Native and University of Florida College of Law
An Orlando native, Attorney Michael J. La Porte earned a Juris Doctor from the University of Florida Levin College of Law. Michael received a Bachelor of Political Science from the University of Central Florida.
